There are a lot of talks surrounding the Layla Pillow recently. If you are wondering what the big deal with this pillow is, then you have come to the right place. We are as curious as you are and we are going to look into what this pillow has to offer our sleep lovers.
Layla is a brand founded back in 2016, so yes it is a pretty young brand. It quickly established itself as a popular choice within the bedding and sleep community. Layla aims to cover as much bases as possible in the bedding world – from mattresses to sheets, and even pillows and weighted blankets.
Now that Layla has released a pillow recently, let us have a look at what it can offer even as a pillow.
Pillows come in all kinds of sizes and are made from different kinds of material. No doubt about that. The Layla Kapok pillow is covered in a blend of polyester, viscose, and a bit of poly-lycra. The inclusion of a small amount of poly-lycra helps give the cover fabric some stretchiness. At the same time, the polyester and viscose make it feel super soft and cosy.
What’s really great about this cover fabric is the copper yarn that is discreetly woven into the fabric. A lot of bedding brands infuse sleep accessories with copper because it helps to draw heat away from the body.
Having copper incorporated into your pillow simply means it will make your sleeping experience a lot less hot. It’s great and beneficial if you have a pillow made from memory foam, as the material has a reputation for trapping heat.
If you are wondering if this pillow has memory foam in it, it has. It has a blend of shredded memory foam and Kapok combined to offer a plush, airy, and supportive feel. If you are unfamiliar with the Kapok material is, it is basically a natural tree fibre that is mostly used as a down-alternative.
Kapok is a very soft and incredibly durable fibre found in the mature pods of kapok trees that are native to South and Central America. Its main purpose in nature is to actively spread its seeds. However, due to its cotton-like, pesticide-free, and natural properties, it combines with memory foam in such a way it offers a unique combination of comfort and firm underlying support.
The material is fluffy, lightweight, and boosts the softness of the pillow. At the same time, the shredded memory foam adds weight, moldability, and firmness for an overall balanced feel.
What stands out about this pillow for many sleepers is its really lofty profile of 7 inches thick. As a matter of fact, this Layla Kapok pillow is one of the loftiest pillows you can find on the market currently, and sleepers are pretty happy about it. What more it is a great pillow for side sleepers.
Side sleepers usually need a high-lofted pillow in order to relieve shoulder pressure and align the spine. With that being said, the internal fill is adjustable. Meaning to say you can unzip the cover and remove as much stuffing as you wish to.
Now that we are done with the pillow profile, let’s have a look at what it has to offer.
The cover fabric for this pillow is made from polyester entirely, and it feels very soft to your touch. Do keep in mind that polyester is naturally moisture-wicking, so while you are not getting the potential benefit of copper here, it will still work to wick sweat off.
Inside the cover, its fabric is an internal polyester casing that houses the internal fill. This is a big advantage as it makes washing it a lot easier. If you wish to wash the cover fabric, then the inner casing is there to keep the stuffing protected and intact.
As you may have already guessed, the internal fill itself is made from shredded memory foam. However, there are some polyester fibre in there too. Like the Kapok material, polyester fibre is often used as a down-alternative mostly because of its fluffy and lightweight feel. It is important to take note that polyester is not a natural material though.
Sleepers who have the opportunity to test these pillows out said they are quite happy with what they have gotten out of this pillow. Some said this Layla Kapok pillow is their “all-time favourite” pillow. This is mostly due to its extra lofty build and fluffy feel that makes it perfect for that position.
With that being said, this is probably not a good pillow for people who sleep on their bellies or stomachs. As a matter of fact, we don’t think this pillow is soft or low-lofted enough for these kinds of sleeping positions.
Although the pillow has an adjustable fill, it may not be exactly a great overall idea so to speak. Consider how you will have to reach in and remove a considerable amount of stuffing in order to reduce sufficient loft.
However, if you are a side sleeper, then we simply cannot recommend this pillow enough. Its cover fabric is very soft and breathable, and its internal fill is very well balanced. The whole pillow is even huggable too!
Overall the Layla Kapok pillow is a great pillow to sleep on, especially for side sleepers. It is a pillow we will highly recommend if you are a side sleeper.
The only downside to this Layla Kapok pillow is that it can be difficult to wash it. This is mostly because its internal should not get wet, and you have to remove all the stuffings before washing it in a washing machine. It can be a hassle if you think about it.
Here are some frequently asked questions (FAQs) you may have regarding the Layla Kapok pillow.
