Best Cooling Mattress In 2020 – Top 10 Picks for Hot Sleepers

Best Cooling Mattress

Do you often find yourself waking up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat? If your current mattress is not made to disburse heat effectively, there is a high possibility that you will sleep hot and waking up sweaty. Being uncomfortably hot and sweaty and can get in the way of your good night’s sleep and reduce your productivity at work the next day.

It is a significant issue for people living in hot homes or warm climates, heavier individuals, or those who tend to sleep hot. Nonetheless, I think it’s time to consider your mattress. Fortunately, modern mattress manufacturers recognize the importance of sleeping cool, and it is a top priority for consumers.

Factors When Choosing the Right Cooling Mattress

Nowadays, there are many mattresses in the market that claim to have various cooling effects. Knowing what to look for in a right bed  is crucial because it determines how effective a mattress is likely to be at keeping you fresh throughout the night.

In this article, I’ll walk you through all the features hot sleepers should consider when purchasing a cooling mattress and highlight several top cooling mattress picks for hot sleepers. I hope that you can easily make a decision and find the best cooling mattress that suits you.

Mattress Material

Typically, there are many types of mattress materials; and each of them has its distinctive ways of cooling you down the entire night.

1. Innerspring (Coil) Mattress

Innerspring mattresses generally do well when it comes to keeping you cool. That’s because the design of innerspring mattresses allow air to flow between and through the coils. The coils and springs are either wrapped individually or grouped.

The coils then work with air to transfer heat away from your body and form a significantly breathable environment. A breathable mattress will eliminate hot air rather than accumulating them underneath you, and this will allows you to get a refreshing night’s sleep.

2. Latex Mattress

Latex is also a tremendous cooling mattress material. Latex is known for its ability to maintain a neutral temperature regardless of your room temperature or how long you sleep on it. Latex usually doesn’t have heat issues due to its chemical composition and numerous air holes that on its body.

Latex mattresses tend to have punched holes for ventilation throughout its design, allowing hot air to discharge out of the mattresses and keeping you cool easily. However, some synthetic latex mattresses do not perform well at reducing your body heat. Mattresses that combine latex with memory or poly-foam also might experience sleeping hot issues as well.

3. Gel Foam Mattress

The gel foam mattress is usually very effective at reducing heat.  Gel foam material is both cooling and conductive to heat; thus it acts as a magnet attracting and contradicting all the body heat you releases. The gel-infused foam mattress is often a popular choice among hot sleepers because most of these mattresses incorporate new cooling technologies in addition to the gel foam used.

A copper is an example of a cooling material used in gel mattresses. Copper is highly conductive to heat, hence it is useful in gathering and distributing heat away from your body.

4. Memory Foam Mattresses

Usually, people would not choose memory foam mattresses since they were well-known for retaining heat. Memory foam’s density tends to have concerns when it comes to the dissipation of heat due to its higher viscous and elastic properties. The same feature that provides comfortable contouring satisfaction can trap heat as well.

Fortunately, memory foam mattress brands are dedicated to improve and update their designs. These mattress brands have successfully incorporated advanced cooling technologies into their mattresses. Hence, you can probably see some of the best cooling mattresses on the market now is made with memory foam.

Memory foam offers an open-cell design that allows high breathability in the mattress. These mattresses consist of multiple foam layers, and are designed to deliver coziness, support, and a cooling sensation. Some of the best cooling memory foam mattresses even contain a layer of new cooling technology designed to push heat out and away from the bed.

Mattress Firmness

So I have discussed how different mattress materials help with reducing heat, but what about the mattress firmness that is ideal for hot sleepers? Question is: a firmer or softer mattress?

If you are a back or stomach sleeper who sleeps hot, firmer mattresses are recommended. On a firmer mattress, you will tend to sleep on the surface rather than sinks in it. This way, you will most likely be sleeping more relaxed because the mattress less surrounds it and there is extra room for air to flow onto your skin.

Firmer mattresses are also particularly great for people with chronic back and neck issues. They can adequately support your spine’s alignment and ensure your spine is located in a practical and healthy position while you sleep. If your bed is too soft, your body will tend to sink in and sleep in unhealthy situations that might cause spine misalignment.

On the other side, softer mattresses are ideal for side sleepers. Softer mattresses are best suited for those who have joint and pressure point problems. A softer mattress will allow your body to have a satisfactory sink and relieve your pressure build-up.

Even though the softer mattress may provide excellent pressure relief, but it may also trap more heat. Such cases are commonly found in most memory foam mattresses. This is because you are getting more contact with the heat-trapping memory foam as you sink in, thus the hotter you can get.

I’m not saying that sleeping in a softer mattress won’t make you sleep cool, but it is just another factor to take note of during the buying process. If you’re searching for a bed that is neither too soft nor too firm, buying a mattress of medium firmness will be your best bet.

Mattress Cover

The mattress cover is another critical feature to be considered since it can affect your body heat retention and temperature regulation. Here are four common cover materials and their capability of making you sleep hot or cold.

1. Non-quilted Covers

Non-quilted covers tend to be the thinnest but the most breathable. It is because they allow you to have contact with the layers of the mattress and doesn’t interfere with heat dissipation or airflow. Thereby, you will receive better air circulation, and as a result, non-quilted covers often sleep more cooling than other cover options listed below.

2. Quilted Covers

In contrast, quilted covers are thicker than non-quilted covers because it consists of cover fabric that is quilted together with another material, which is most likely foam (polyfoam or memory foam). While foam materials usually improve pressure relief, it can also heat your sleeping surface significantly and affects the overall air circulation. So if you sleep hot, it may be better to stay away from quilted covers.

3. Phase-Change Materials

Phase-change materials or PCMs refers to materials that are intended to retain body heat until your body reaches a certain temperature level, at which point it will automatically stop absorbing heat.

You will be fascinated with phase-change covers like I do, because they can maintain a steady and ascetically cold temperature regardless of how much body heat you are producing. The phase-change material may not be useful as the non-quilted cover, but many satisfied mattress owners claim these materials keep the temperature down efficiently throughout the night.

4. Cooling Fabrics

Here are some of the covers made from cooling fabrics that you may encounter and surprisingly didn’t realize:

  • Celliant® Fibers:Celliant® fibers are a potent mix of thermo-reactive minerals that help transform the heat coming off of your body into infrared energy and discharge that energy back into your body. It can improve your circulation and regulate your body temperature so that you can sleep cool and soundly. This material is essential if you are an athlete or have an active lifestyle.
  • Lyocell (Tencel): Lyocell is a form of rayon that is made of cellulose, a material from wood pulp found in eucalyptus trees. This material is known to be relatively soft, thin, breathable, and lightweight. Also, Lyocell can help prevent the mattress from retaining heat and provide a suitably cool surface for hot sleepers.
  • Lycra (Spandex):This synthetic material is breathable, highly elastic, and durable. This material is frequently found in athletic clothing, tights, bras, and even underwear! It also targets to wicks away moisture from your body, which can be favorable if you tend to sweat due to sleeping hot.

Mattress Durability

Mattresses are usually costly; thus you need to do thorough research and make sure you select the best bed to meet your sleep essentials. When it comes to spending hundreds/thousands of dollars on a new bed, you want to ensure you’re buying a mattress that will last you for years to come. If you plan to purchase a cheaper mattress to save money, you’ll probably end up being uncomfortable and miserable due to its low quality and durability.

Instead, I recommend you to invest in the best bed, although the cost may not be cheap. Out of all the mattress types, latex and memory foam mattresses are known to be considerably more durable and can last up to ten or twelve years without losing their comfort and support.

Furthermore, you surely wanted your investment to be protected, and thus you should choose a mattress that comes with a good warranty. Buying a mattress with over 10-year warranty ensures the brand will cover any defects in the bed that may be caused over time. However, do remember that most mattress warranties do not include matters concerning your comfort preferences, including sleeping hot.

Thus, this is where the sleep trials step in. Mostly all mattress manufacturer offers sleep trials, in which you can test out their mattress to ensure it will meet your requirements and preferences. Most sleep trial durations are between 60 to 120 nights, so if you are unsatisfied with the mattress during this period, you can return or exchange it for a refund with no hassle.

Top 10 Best Cooling Mattress

To ease your decision-making process, I’ll provide you with 10 of my top picks (which represent my personal favorites and biases) in the hope that you will found a one that you like!

1. Amerisleep AS3 Mattress

Amerisleep AS3

For me, the Amerisleep AS3 Mattress holds the title for the best cooling mattress of the year. Not only it has the best quality, but it is an excellent fit regardless of what positions you sleep. You will be hard-pressed to find a more comfortable and cooling mattress at this price point.

Amerisleep features five different models of the mattress, and each of them ranging in different firmness (AS1 Firm -AS5 Soft), hence allowing you to pick your desired firmness level. Their beds are designed to be breathable, so no matter what model you choose, you can be sure you won’t be waking up sweaty.

I’d personally go for the Amerisleep AS3 not only because that it is the most popular mattress in its brands’ line, but it is also the most versatile mattress. You can use it on any frame you want or even none (directly place it on the floor)!

1. First layer: 3-inch Bio-Pur® Foam Layer

Bio-Pur® foam material is five times more breathable than traditional memory foam, thanks to its advanced open-cell structure. It allows air to escape and wicks away heat while you sleep. Thus, you will feel calm and comfortable throughout the night. This material is also more responsive than standard memory foams. Bio-Pur® can bounce back into shape in 3 or 4 seconds instead of taking 50 or 60 seconds. As you shift positions at night, your mattress will keep up with you and provide you superior comfort.

In addition to being breathable and responsive, this foam is the most environmentally friendly as it is plant-based. During the patented foam-making process, Amerisleep replaces petroleum oil typically used with castor oil instead. This method results in higher breathability and prevents any new mattress odor upon unpacking your mattress. Amerisleep also claims its pride when this manufacturing method exceeds the standards of the Clean Air Act.

The HIVE® layer is soft, responsive, and located directly below the Bio-Pur® foam layer. It will adjust to your body position and evenly distribute your weight. This layer offers targeted pressure point relief so that you will feel weightlessly sleeping on a cloud. Besides that, this layer works in conjunction with the Bio-Pur® layer to provide comfort and support while eliminating air out of the mattress.

3. 7-inch Bio-Core® Foam Layer

The base of AS3 mattress is made from their durable BioCore® foam and promises that the mattress won’t sag even after decades of use. The BioCore® foam supports the layers above and ensures your mattress’s endurance. Because this high-density foam can support the entire mattress surface area, Amerisleep does not need to place any additional edge support into their mattresses’ design.

The Amerisleep AS3 is considered a medium mattress with maybe a slight hedge to the firmer side; thus, this level offers a right balance between soft and firm and is suitable for almost everyone. Because of its average firmness, you should be pretty comfortable on this mattress in multiple positions. Also, you will get this pleasing sink in AS3 Mattress without the feeling of being stuck.

The AS3 Mattress comes with a Celliant® cover, which is the same for all the other mattresses in the Amerisleep line. Celliant® is an advanced fabric made with 13 thermo-reactive minerals, which includes polyester and spandex. It is designed to absorb your body heat and transform it into infrared energy.

The infrared energy could also encourage blood flow, which eventually regulates your body temperature to ensure you do not overheat sleeping at night. Even if you sleep with layers of sheets and blankets, this Celliant® cover will still work effectively in maintaining your body temperature level.

The Amerisleep AS3 Mattress is backed by an incredible 20-year warranty, which is above the average warranty period. You can purchase it with confidence now as you can assure this high-quality mattress tends to last for an extended period. If it still doesn’t convince you enough, you have 100 nights to try it out for yourself. If you ended up not liking it, give Amerisleep a call, and they will pick up the mattress and process the refund accordingly.

Although the Amerisleep AS3 is great for side and combination sleeper, it may be a little too soft for a stomach or back sleeper. Aside from that, it will certainly provide you a quality night’s sleep with the promise of durability, support, and comfort. Additionally, their price tag won’t break your bank, which is particularly a good option if you have a tight budget.

At the end of the day, the Amerisleep AS3 is a luxury mattress at a reasonable price. The AS3 will not only keep you from sweating excessively throughout the night, but it also provides coziness and support necessary for a good night’s sleep.

2. GhostBed Luxe Mattress

Coming in at a second place, the GhostBed Luxe is the second higher-end mattress under the GhostBed brand manufactured by Nature’s Sleep, which has been in the mattress industry for over 15 years. Nature’s Sleep is well known for producing affordable and quality mattresses that are eco-friendly.

The GhostBed Luxe mattress was crafted with the primary purpose of preventing you from overheating while you sleep. By the way, here’s a fun fact of why it is called the GhoseBed in the first place. As a child, the founder of GhostBed was afraid of ghosts hiding under the bed.

GhostBed Luxe has lean into the challenge of ensuring a cool night’s sleep by producing a 7-layer mattress incorporated with cooling properties in all layers except for the dense support layer at the bottom. The cooling fibers and quilting on the top, with a thin layer of phase-change material and gel-infused foam in the other layers, work together pretty well in terms of keeping sleepers cool enough to fall asleep peacefully.

1. Comfort Layer:  This layer is made of 2-inches of gel memory foam. The foam will allow you to sink into the mattress for pressure relief and provide contouring to the body. Another benefit of the gel infusion of the memory foam is that it absorbs heat as it builds up and then disintegrates as air travel through the foam.

2. Transition Layer: Located directly below the comfort layer is 2 inches of proprietary bounce foam, known as the Ghost Bounce Layer. It is a soft layer of blend between latex and memory foam that are meant to be supportive and resilient. While it allows you to sink into the mattress a little deeper, you’ll be able to bounce out of bed without the feeling of being stuck. It has a quick response to pressure/bounce like latex but still conforms to your body curves as all good memory foam does.

3. Base Layer: The base of the mattress consist of a 7.5-inch of high-density support foam that provides ultimate support, durability, and longevity. It is the thickest layer with a quick response to pressure that serves as the foundation for the structure. The mattress base not only provided support to the layers above it, but it also delivers deep density support to the sleeper as well.

The GhostBed Luxe firmness is estimated to be around 5.5/10 on the firmness scale. Thus, it is considered a plush rather than a medium firmness mattress. Even if you lay on your back, this mattress will provide ideal support and did an excellent job of providing pressure relief. It is all due to the memory foam found in both the cover and comfort layer of the mattress.

The GhostBed Luxe’s Gel Memory Foam layer also tends to stop motion transfer, ensuring you and your partner, an interrupted good night rest. You will not be interrupted even though your partner does frequent toss and turns during the night.

GhostBed pulls some impressive tricks with their Luxe cover, where they named it “Ghost Ice Fabric” to really emphasize the idea that it’s cool to the touch. The Luxe Cover is a proprietary blend that uses phase change material to control temperature regulation and maintain it at an appropriate cold level.

Directly underneath the cover is a proprietary material, known as the “Ghost Ice Layer” that uses a cutting edge Japanese cooling technology. This technique can capture heat and create a cool sleeping surface for you. You can now see why GhostBed Luxe made it into our list of the best cooling mattresses.

I should also mention that the cover is quilted to provide extra pressure relief and comfort. In the cover, there is a 0.5-inch of cooling fiber layer that is knitted into the topper. The quilted surface is made with three advanced technologies specially engineered to keep you sleeping sweat-free throughout the night. Then, there is a 1-inch layer of gel memory foam. The proprietary gel memory foam is infused into the topper to transfer body heat away and helps to prevent sleeping too hot.

One of the best features of GhostBed Luxe is that it comes with an industry-leading 25-year warranty, which is above and beyond what most of the foam online mattresses are offering. Generally, you will see warranties in between 7-10 year range, so GhostBed Luxe has the upper edge in terms of warranty length. Nature’s Sleep Company claimed that every GhostBed mattress is made with only the finest quality materials and detail-oriented craft. Thus, if something goes wrong with your purchase, know that you’re securely covered.

You’ll also get a 101-night risk-free trial period before you make your purchase decision. Also, it would help if you took note that your trial period starts on the day the mattress is dispatched and not on arrival day. Hence, it basically start way before you get a chance to sleep in it, and not on arrival day. After 30 days of the trial period, you can initiate a return process with GhostBed if the mattress does not meet your sleeping needs. Depends on the situation, GhostBed will either fix any damage found or issue you a full refund.

The GhostBed Luxe is at a slightly above average price point as compared to the rest of the online mattresses.  Therefore, the GhostBed Luxe is not listed under the budget mattress category. Furthermore, the company itself has received some negative criticism in terms of customer support service. However, I still find the mattress to be worth considering if you are looking for a memory foam mattress with extra money to spare.

Moreover, it also effectively combats heat retention with its proprietary Ghost Ice technology woven into the fabric and the gel-infused memory foam. You can now have peaceful sweat-free nights! If this is the mattress for you, do check out our full Ghostbed Mattress Review where we cover other important aspects.

3. The Puffy Royal Mattress

Puffy Royal

Making its way to the third place in the list, it is the Puffy Royal Mattress. When you think of the puffy ROYAL foam mattress, you’ll immediately think of premium and luxury. Many say that sleeping on this brand-new Puffy Royal mattress is like floating on a cloud. Do you know that this 14-inch think Puffy Royal Mattress has also rated the best mattress of the year 2020?

Puffy has three mattresses options in its line: Puffy MattressPuffy Lux mattress, and the premium Puffy Royal mattress. The two older models were successful, but this newly launched Puffy Royal Mattress (14 September 2019) is already catching up the pace on becoming the new bestseller.

With even more improvements, this deluxe bed offers five premium layers of support and comfort that will make you feel like lying on a puffy cloud. Puffy Royal Mattress is equipped with zoned support, advanced airflow, and brings lasting pain relief. It also incorporated with an advanced technology, Infused Cooling Beads, to combat heat retention and makes it cooler for a comfortable sleeping experience yet.

As mentioned earlier, this memory foam mattress combines five layers to create a 14-inch thick profile, which hasn’t included the plush cover yet.

1. First layer: It is a 1.5-inch of the cooling memory foam layer. This layer is infused with cooling beads to eliminate heat retention. This advanced cooling property can deliver a steady airflow across the entire bed all night long and provide consistent and relaxed sleep.

2. Second & Third layers: Underneath the top tier are two layers that feature ultra-pressure relieving and cooling memory foam. Both layers have their unique properties to enhance your body contouring. These layers also have highly responsive and flexibility so that you don’t get a feel of being stuck in the mattress and unable to get up from the bed. Moreover, this dual-layer of foam has the same advanced cooling properties as the Puffy Lux, which helps in temperature regulation and climate control.

3. Fourth layer: This middle layer among the comfort layers features a unique SMT cloud design that sets it apart from other premium mattresses. Even though this layer is made out of foam, it contains channels and grooves that offer incredible airflow and breathability to the bed. Furthermore, it also provides zoned pressure support and relief for enhancing the spine support, while ensuring your lower back will have extra support for ideal pressure relief.

4. Bottom layer: In the core support layer, this mattress used one of the best quality base foams in the market. This base layer is made out of 6-inch solid and durable foam material to provide ideal support. Also, it is 99% more responsive, thanks to its Insta-Firm technology. Due to this advanced technology, the base foam is appeared to be four-times more supportive than any other regular base foam.

We have tackled this aspect too in our comprehensive Puffy Mattress Review.

When it comes to toughness, the Puffy Royal Mattress is on a medium on the soft-to-firm scale. Generally, the Puffy mattress has a proper balance between support and pressure relief. If you share a bed with your partner, you would want a mattress that has little to no motion isolation. This incredibly thick memory foam mattress will absorb any motion and movements, making it a perfect mattress for couples or lighter sleepers that are sensitive to moves.

Also, the high flexibility and responsive material used in the mattress makes it easy to switch between sleeping positions. Whether you do many tosses and turns, or your partner has different schedules or you have a pet that sleeps with you, the Puffy Royal Mattress is going to eliminate motion transfer.

The cover of the new Puffy Royal mattress makes it an exceptional upgrade to this premium bed. The upgraded plush cover on this mattress has a more luxury appearance and thicker than the ones in Puffy and Puffy Lux mattress. Thus, it acts more than a comfort layer rather than just a cover.

The cover is also professionally tailored to give a perfect fit and feeling; it comes with a zipper that makes it easier to adjust the mattress and easy to clean. It is a durable cover where you can unzip and throw in your washing machine to remove germs, dirt, and bacteria.

An exciting feature of the cover is that it is stain-resistant. It is a small but nice feature to have, especially if you enjoy breakfast in bed or like to lie in bed and to watch your favorite movie while eating and drinking. Apart from that, this soft and breathable cover is Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 Certified.

Every Puffy mattress is proudly made in the USA, which means it is made to order when you choose to buy. You can rest assured of the durable quality because the company uses Certipur-US Certified foams in its construction.

With a lifetime warranty, Puffy allows you to experience the most luxurious and comfortable mattress you have ever had with peace of mind. A lifetime warranty usually shows the company’s confidence in its mattresses.  Thus, for as long as you use the mattress, they will protect your purchase.

Besides, you can try the Puffy Royal Mattress risk-free in your own home for a full 101 nights. If you do not enjoy it and feel that it affects your sleeping quality, they will refund the total purchase price and scheduled a time for your mattress to be picked up in a reasonable amount of time.

The only downside with the Puffy Royal Mattress is its cost. The price of Puffy Royal is the highest among the Puffy and Puffy Lux mattress. This is mostly due to the additional two layers of cooling, which makes it expensive for the manufacturer to produce these extremely plush mattresses. However, if you’re searching for a new premium mattress and want to make an investment that will last for years to come, the Puffy Royal is the one to choose.

While the innovative technology found in the materials create a much cooler memory foam bed and support that will make you never want to leave the bed. Similarly, this popular and sophisticated mattress will transform the way you sleep no matter what your preferred sleeping positions is.

4. Tuft & Needle Original Mattress

Tuft & Needle

Are you currently looking for an all-foam bed that’s a fit for your body and your budget as well? The Tuft & Needle Original mattress may well be calling your name. Tuft & Needle made a massive impression in the mattress industry as it offered one of the lowest-priced beds in a box foam mattresses. It is indeed one of the biggest bed-in-a-box companies on the marketplace these days.

The Tuft & Needle Original Mattress is designed to provide cooling comfort, optimal support, and pressure relief for all types of sleepers. This mattress is, without a doubt, one of the best deals offered in the bedding industry. It has a basic, soft, all-foam design with no real frills, fancy foam, and unreasonable price included.

The Tuft & Needle Original Mattress is a 10-inch all-foam bed with only two layers, hence the reason that the price point is slightly lower. Even though it only consists of two layers, it doesn’t mean it’s a low-quality mattress. In fact, there are many satisfied customers that really like Tuft & Needle, and mostly all kept their beds after the trial period ends.

1. Comfort Layer: It is made of 3-inch of soft T&N proprietary poly foam, which integrates graphite and ceramic gelto help with temperature regulation and keeping the bed surface fresh. The graphite tends to absorb heat as you sleep and disperse it out the sides of the mattress away from you; hence you will no longer have sweaty nights. The cooling gel inside the comfort layer can also wick away heat and moisture. Also, the cooling beads can dissipate heat and provide additional support for optimal comfort when you lay down on the mattress.

2. Support Layer: Directly below the comfort layer is the base layer that consists of a 7-inch of high-density polyurethane foam. This open-cell support foam creates a breathable foundation and ensuring your mattress to last longer. This firmer layer give the cushion its robust shape and help keep you positioned on top of the bed surface. However, heavier individuals might be prone to sinking through the comfort layer and hitting into the super firm base since this mattress only has two layers.

The Tuft & Needle Original Mattress is the firmest mattress among its two other models of its brand lines. While firmness can be subjective, I would consider it about a 7-7.5 on a 1-10 scale where ten is the firmest. Since the Tuft & Needle mattress is more to the firmer side, I think it is an ideal option for back or stomach sleepers who need steady support at the spine while preventing any hip sinkage.

Fortunately, the Tuft & Needle Original Mattress did pretty well in terms of responsiveness. Unlike a traditional memory foam mattress that leaves behind a body indent, it reacts almost immediately to pressure and snaps back into shape quickly. Thanks to the excellent mobility and bounce, I’d also say this mattress is perfect for combination sleepers that want to rotate sleeping positions with ease.

In 2018, Tuft & Needle modified the old transparent cover and amended it to a slightly textured and unique cover that’s soft to the touch and is made up of micro polyamide as well as polyester. Because it’s pretty thin and lightweight, air should travel easily through this mattress to help regulate temperature. The polyester material is known for being soft but it can maintain the mattress shape and durability even when it goes through lots of wear and tear.

Although the cover has a zipper at the underside of the bed and it is removable, you really shouldn’t get in the habit of removing it frequently for laundering. If you wish to keep your mattress clean and fresh and want to protect against stains or the oil from your skin, you can try the following two options.

  1. Purchase a mattress topper – keep it clean from dirt, dust, or stains.
  2. Spot clean the bed where it has stains

The Tuft & Needle Original Mattress is made in the US, which ensures that superior quality materials are used in its structure, thus making the mattress more durable.

Typically, the Tuft & Needle Company gives you a 100 risk-free night period to test it out in the comfort of your own home. It is your chance to give the mattress a thumb up (like) or thumbs down (dislike). If you ended up hitting that dislike button (which is a shame) with Tuft & Needle mattress within the first 100 nights, you could receive a full refund. The company will send over a local charity or someone in your neighborhood to pick up the bed from your house. Tuft & Needle, like plenty of other mattress brands, offers completely free returns, which is an added advantage for me.

You should also know that Tuft & Needle Original Mattress comes with a 10-year warranty that covers defects, careless workmanship, and other problems from the manufacturing process.

As mentioned earlier, the Tuft & Needle Original Mattress might not be right for heavier folks who might shove through the comfort layer and bump up against the extra-firm base. Besides, side sleepers may find the mattress too firm for their liking as they’ll usually want a softer mattress to better support the shoulder and hip. Nonetheless, with affordable price point and quality foam, this mattress is all about value for the money.

If you are looking for a breathable bed that doesn’t trap heat, look no further than this one right here as this mattress does a great job at cooling. Also, you might want to consider the T&N Original if you want a great price mattress without sacrificing comfort.

  • Affordable price suitable for budget shoppers
  • Highly responsive to pressure
  • Great temperature regulation
  • A great option for combination sleepers
  • Durable

  • Not ideal for heavier individuals
  • Side sleepers may find it too firm

5. Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Hybrid Mattress

Another famous bed-in-a-box goes to the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Hybrid Mattress, which is widely considered as one of the best cooling mattresses available online. Brooklyn Bedding determines to cater to different groups of individuals with the Aurora mattress when the mattress comes in multiple firmness levels and is highly responsive to pressure. The Aurora Hybrid Mattress combines multiple technologies that create a bed that’s cool-to-the-touch and works to keep you sleeping cool throughout the night.

The Aurora by Brooklyn Bedding is a hybrid mattress that incorporates individually wrapped coils, proprietary foam (TitanFlex™), and Energex foam. The mattress has five layers of different materials precisely.

1. First Layer: The top layer is made of a 1.5-inch layer of Copper Gel Energex™ foam. This quick responding layer will provide pressure relief and enable you to have satisfactory sinkage and body contouring. Thanks to its copper infusion, the mattress surface will feel cool to the touch and also promotes an antibacterial setting. It is also paired with the TitanCool™ technology, a water-based solution that is infused into the mattress surface to help transfer heat away from your body.

2. Second Layer: It’s a 2-inch layer is called TitanFlex™, which is a type of foam that Brooklyn Bedding specifically engineered for its mattresses in the Brooklyn Bedding line. This material helps draw the pressure relief of the top layer and provides additional contouring with higher flexibility.

4. Third Layer:  It’s a 1-inch thin layer of proprietary memory foam, which transitions between the foam and support pocketed coils and helps to elevate the mattress’ motion isolation.

5. Fourth Layer: It is made from 8-inch of individually encased coils that provide ultimate support, durability, and stability to the mattress. Moreover, it helps to balance out the intense sinkage of the top layers and promote better airflow.

6. Fifth Layer: The last layer is a 1-inch base layer of high-density polyfoam that acts the bed’s foundation underneath the coils.

A good thing about The Brooklyn Aurora Hybrid Mattress is that it comes in multiple firmness options: Soft, Medium, and Firm. I’d go for the Medium option because it is the most popular and has medium-soft firmness to it. Though, you can always select the firmness according to your sleeping preference.

When you lay on the mattress, you will have this soft neutral-foam feel with gentle support from the pocketed coils. The coils layer gives out a good, deep bounce and support so that you aren’t going to feel stuck in this mattress at all. It also has quick responsiveness that allows you to switch sleeping positions without effort.

The Brooklyn Aurora Hybrid Mattress has a cover that is made of a blend of polyester, rayon, and phase change material. Brooklyn Bedding infused a phase change molecule called TitanCool™ on the surface of the Brooklyn Aurora to maintain your optimal skin sleep temperature of 88 degrees. It helps with temperature regulation throughout the mattress and provides you with a cozy blast of refreshing chill as soon as you lie down.

A premium smooth top texture allows the appropriate amount of cooling to be delivered to you on contact to prevent you from overheating. The soft and luxurious feel will result in the most elite bedtime experience yet.

Brooklyn Bedding’s policies are mostly standard, like most of the other mattresses. When you purchase the Aurora Mattress, you get free shipping and receive a free 120-night trial period. The great thing about Aurora’s sleep trial is that it begins on the date that you received the mattress and not the date it is shipped. How great is that?

Regrettably, if you decide the Aurora Mattress doesn’t work for you, you can request a free return and full refund. Conversely, if you enjoy the bed, you get a 10-year non-prorated warranty to back it up.

If you already decide to keep a moderate budget in mind, the pricing on the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Mattress will probably make you think twice. I wouldn’t consider it expensive for the high quality, comfortable, and cooling mattress you’re getting, but this is not a cheap budget mattress, to be honest. In addition to the price point, you would not see extra contouring effect with this mattress, though; you’re likely to experience some nice pressure relief from the Aurora.

Overall, the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora is a luxury hybrid mattress with some unique qualities. You can also customize it to match the firmness level you prefer, which gives you extra flexibility in terms of finding what fits your body best. Also, this is one of the coolest-sleeping mattresses out there; thus it’s ideal if you often sleep too hot. If longevity, comfort, and cooling bed temperature are the keys to making you happy, the Aurora is your dream mattress.

6. WinkBed with Cool Control

WinkBeds is well known for being one of the popular hybrids on the market, thus earning the sixth spot on the list for the best cooling mattress. The WinkBed is the most universally comfortable and popular model among its other two flagship models and is designed to exceed the performance of the premium luxury hotel mattresses.

Additionally, it offers a perfect balance of contouring comfort and pushback support with a medium feel luxury Euro-pillow top and 7-zone support coils. If you are a combo sleeper and have night sweating issue, the WinkBeds Luxury Firm could be the right mattress for you.

Before I start with the material descriptions, I would like to point out one interesting fact about WinkBed is that it’s handmade to order by skilled mattress makers in Wisconsin factory. It didn’t roll off of the assembly line in China, and it’s built with the finest materials and has the most durable quality.

The Original WinkBed is a relatively heavy hybrid mattress that features four layers of gel-infused pressure-relieving foam, micro-coils, and pocketed coils. This combination of materials results in a bouncy and highly supportive construction that also makes you sleep comfortably cool at night.

1. Top Layer: It is a quilted 2-inch thick European pillow top that is comprised of hypersoft foam as well as gel foam. Although this comfort layer is smooth and comfortable to the touch, it also retains a fair amount of firmness and support, unlike the regular memory foam that tends to let you sink in and leave a body impression behind. The gel foam is a nice feature as it allows the mattress to sleep cooler by lowering the temperature of trapped body heat better than a memory foam mattress, which can retain heat.

2. Second Layer: You will find a 2.5-inch layer of micro-coils encased with high density and high ILD edge support foam for added comfort/support. This layer targets to provide ultimate support with the springs while allowing air to naturally flow through the mattress so you can have a cooling bedtime.

3. Third Layer:  The core support layer contains 7-inch individually wrapped 14-gauge tempered steel coils. These pocketed coils are zoned into seven sections that provide different firmness and pressure relief at different contact points (hips, joints, and shoulders, etc.) along the body when you lie down on it. The individually wrapped coils are also much better at reducing motion transfer than traditional steel coils, and it provides a bouncier and more breathable feel to the mattress.

4. Fourth Layer: The base layer is a 2-inch thick high-density foam support on the bottom of the structure. This layer aims to provide stability and durability to the mattress.

The WinkBed comes with four firmness options: Soft, Luxury Firm, Firm, & Plus Firm. The version I’d recommend is the Luxury Firm, which is the most popular option. This Happy Medium Firm did a decent job when it comes to every sleep position and can even work well for couples with different preferences.

Although the Euro pillow top foam is soft and comfy, the mattress overall has a durable and supportive feel to it. The bounce from the coils will most likely make you feel as though you’re sleeping more “on” the mattress than sinks “in” it. Also, the bounce should make you feel more natural to move around on the bed; thus there is a balance of soft comfort and proper support.

The cover of the WinkBed is made from Tencel, which is a plant-based fiber because it is an all-natural, eco-friendly material made from eucalyptus wood cellulose. It’s very light, soft to the touch, and the exterior looks premium. A bonus is that the cover is OEKO-TEX Standard 100, Class 1 certified that ensures it meets the standard and guaranteeing the material is safe enough for children to use. The quilted detailing also provides pressure relief and a bit of soft sinkage.

I have to admit that I am impressed with the Tencel cover. It’s incredibly soft, fluffy, hygienic and extremely comfortable—not to mention it looks like a million bucks material.

WinkBed measures in at around 13.5-inch tall, which is one of the thickest and heaviest mattresses I’ve ever seen. I have zero concerns with WinkBed when it comes to the durability since the dual coils are meant to make the mattress more durable; therefore the WinkBed Mattress should stand up to years of wear and tear.

WinkBed features a 120-night risk-free trial period with their mattress. It is an opportunity for you to judge the bed for yourself and find out whether it’s a yes or no. At any point during the trial period, if you decided you no longer want the bed, you can return it and get a full refund. There is no catch, and no question asked.

If you do hold onto the WinkBed, it comes with a lifetime warranty that protects against workmanship and manufacturing defects. WinkBed is one of the few proud companies that have the confidence to offer a lifetime warranty policy. While I was naïve to think 25 years is the longest it could go, this lifetime warranty policy certainly surprises me.

Unfortunately, the WinkBed didn’t do a pretty good job in terms of motion transfer due to its bounciness and buoyancy properties, especially if you sleep with a partner or pet. Other than that, the strong support structure and coil layers mean this bed doesn’t provide as much contouring or sinkage that you can get from memory foam or foam-based mattress.

Nonetheless, the WinkBed is a classy hybrid mattress that looks like it could belong to a resorts hotel. Not only it looks premium, but it also looks expensive to produce. It even looks like a bed that I’d brag to my friends. The WinkBed is not a budget mattress, but it also certainly is not a costly mattress. In fact, I’d consider WinkBed a worth value given the package you are receiving.

  • Lifetime Replacement Warranty
  • Long-lasting
  • Perfect for combination sleepers
  • Suitable for heavier individuals
  • Can fix overheat issues

  • Susceptible to motion transfer
  • Doesn’t provide as much contouring or sinkage

7. Cocoon Chill by Sealy Mattress

Cocoon Chill

If you’ve done much research for mattresses, you have probably heard of the legendary Sealy. It may be hard to believe that the company has been in the mattress industry and produce quality mattresses since the year 1881! The newer Chill version of the Cocoon by Sealy raises the bar by adding “phase change material” within the cover that regulates your body temperature while you sleep and still has that comforting feeling. It is one of the best cooling mattresses at a reasonable price.

Cocoon Chill Mattress- Medium Soft Model has a 10-inch height profile and is constructed with three layers of foam.

1. Top Layer: The Cocoon Chill’s comfort layer consists of a 2-inch of 100% perfect-fit memory foam. Memory foam is known for its ability to conforms to your body and provide pressure relief. This layer will adapt carefully to your body size, shape, and sleep position since it is typical memory foam.

2. Second Layer: A 2-inch soft poly foam layer immediately follows it. This transition layer can soften up the mattress, which would allow you to sink into the mattress slightly more and provide some pressure relief. What Sealy does is reduce the thickness of the base layer (from 8 to 6-inch) to allow room for this transition layer. Hence, the less you feel of the dense and firm base layer, the softer your bed will feel.

3. Third Layer:  The base layer is made with a 6-inch tall of high-density polyurethane foam. This layer can be found on nearly all-foam mattresses. It will provide support to you and give the bed its sturdy shape and act as the foundation for the structure as a whole. By reducing the size of the base layer and replacing it with 2 inches transition poly foam, Sealy moves it further from the sleeping surface and creates a softer and cool bed surface for you.

The Cocoon Chill Mattress comes with two firmness options, and there are relatively similar. Though, I pick the Cocoon Soft not only because it is the popular option, but it is less dense and allows you to sink into the bed a little more while sleeping. Although it is a soft option, it is closer to a medium to medium-firm range on a firmness scale. It tends to be the most popular level of firmness because it will accommodate many different sleep preferences and suitable for most individuals.

The thick layer of memory foam on top of Cocoon Mattress is great at isolating motion, which is beneficial if your partner tends to do frequent toss and turn at night. The mattress will do an excellent job of keeping your partner’s movement from traveling onto your side of the bed.

The Cocoon Chill Mattress cover is infused with Sealy’s proprietary phase change material that absorbs and disperses body heat. In fact, this cover makes the Cocoon Chill Mattress feel cool to the touch controlling temperature regulation. Although many mattress companies claim to incorporate cooling technologies that will prevent the mattress from sleeping warm, they are not always practical. The phase change material used on Cocoon Chill Mattress, however, helps provide a cold sleeping surface. Therefore, you may want to check it out if you generally have issues sleeping too hot.

Cocoon Chill Mattress is supportive enough to work for all body types, including heavier users. It is due the high-density memory foam that allows heavy sleepers to find it durable and supportive for a variety of sleeping positions.

If you are concerned about your mattress lifespan, Sealy offers a 10-year full replacement warranty on the Cocoon Chill Mattress. This means that they will replace or repair any faulty materials that are covered under warranty within ten years from your initial purchase date. Defects that fall under Sealy’s warranty include physical flaws such as any visible indentation higher than 1-inch, a torn mattress cover, etc.

Moreover, Cocoon Chill Mattress comes with a standard 100-night sleep trial with no mandatory break-in period. If you don’t find the mattress to be as comfortable as you’d hoped once it reaches, Sealy will allow you to opt to try the other firmness model instead during the 100-night free trial. For example, you can swap out the “Cocoon Firm” version for the “Cocoon Soft.” If the mattress still isn’t the right fit, you can also get a 100% refund within that 100-night trial period.

Cocoon Chill Mattress receives negative feedback from some users claiming that the medium-soft mattress is way too firm, and it can worsen their back pain. Nevertheless, the Cocoon Chill mattress ticks nearly all the boxes. It is affordable, comes with multiple firmness options, a cooling mattress that is great for people who sleep hot or live in a warm home or climate.

It’s also backed by one of the three most recognizable names in the mattress business with over 100 years of expertise, maintaining their longevity by offering consistent quality and durability to the end consumers.

  • Good edge support
  • Good motion Isolation
  • Affordable
  • Great for people who sleep hot
  • CertiPUR-US Certified
  • Multiple Firmness Options

  • Negative feedbacks saying the mattress is too firm
  • Increase backaches and pain

8. Nectar Mattress

Have you always wanted to try a memory foam mattress but are worried about sacrificing comfort? Worry not, online retailer Nectar strives to incorporate a balance between comfort and support into their mattress, all while removing mediators and providing their quality mattresses at an affordable price point. This is one of the reasons why this mattress is number 8 in our best overall picks for the best cooling mattress.

The Nectar Mattress is an all-foam bed made up of three distinct layers that stack up to an 11-inch tall profile.

1. Top Layer: You will see a 3-inch Nectar’s LushFoam™ directly below the cover, a type of gel memory foam that contours to your body’s curves and shapes. This foam could be particularly useful for side sleepers because they tend to need more cushion support at the shoulders and hips. This comfort layer has an incredibly slow reaction to pressure, allowing you to sink in the mattress for some satisfying pressure relief. The gel also helps regulate bed temperature.

2. Second Layer: Up next, you’ll find a 1.5-inch transitional layer of memory foam (Adaptive Hi Core Memory Foam), which has a quicker response to pressure than the previous layer above it. This transition layer could support your body’s weight and ease the sleeper into the supportive base below.

3. Third Layer:  There is a 5.5-inch of high-density polyfoam rounding out the construction. Nectar Company refers to it as a High Vegetable Base Super Core. This layer provides support to your body and creates a reliable and durable foundation for the mattress.

Nectar scored a 6 to 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, with ten being the firmest. This places it in the versatile medium to a medium-firm range that will suit a variety of different sleeping preferences and needs.

The Nectar plush and soft quilted cover gave you an extra layer of pressure-relieving memory foam and produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. You will immediately feel your entire body slowly sinking into the upper layers for a deep hug when you are lying on the mattress.

The bottom two layers are firmer, and this is where Nectar has done fantastic job of combining pressure relief and comfort with support. Though memory foam mattresses that cradle your body can sometimes retain heat, Nectar’s cooling features like the gel-infused foam and the breathable cover that will keep you from sleeping hot.

The Nectar cover is comprised of both durable long-staple cotton and Tencel, an eco-friendly fabric that promotes airflow and temperature regulation. Additionally, there’s a 1-inch layer of breathable gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which gives the top of the bed a luxuriously soft feel that also works to reduce heat retention. The combination of the Tencel fibers and gel infusion creates an ultra-cool layer that’ll help regulate temperatures and prevent you from overheat throughout the night.

Although the cover is typically removable, I wouldn’t recommend you remove it frequently, and machine washes it. Instead, if you happen to spill some stains on it or have an accident, you should spot clean it with water using a dab of mild detergent.

Nectar offers you a 180-night trial period to test out the bed once you receive the mattress, which is above and beyond what most bed-in-a-box companies provide. Not to mention, it offers the most extended sleeping trial period in this list. If you decided to give up the mattress for whatever reasons during that time, contact Nectar’s customer service, and they will arrange for someone to collect the mattress from your home with no charge.

Nectar Mattress is also backed by a lifetime warranty, in which they call it Forever Warranty.” The company will replace the defective mattress at no cost to the owner for the first ten years. After ten years, the company will either repair or replace the bed provided that the owners must pay a certain amount of flat charge for the shipping and transportation.

While many will enjoy the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I would say that the foam may cause hips misalignment with their shoulders for stomach sleepers. Additionally, it has nearly no bounce, which could be a deal-breaker for those sleepers searching for some buoyant support.

But for the price you pay, I think it’s an outstanding value. Perhaps the best thing about the Nectar mattress is its price tag; it’s an affordable memory foam mattress. It is much cheaper than what seems to be the industry average, and also the cheapest in the list!

Another nice gesture is that Nectar usually throws in two free premium Nectar pillows with every mattress purchase. Furthermore, Nectar uses gel-memory foam instead of the standard memory foam that could gently regulate heat and maintain a neutral temperature for hot sleepers.

  • Compatible Adjustable Base
  • “Forever Warranty”
  • Perfect for budget shoppers
  • Ideal for hot sleepers
  • Comfortable to a wide variety of sleepers

  • Might not be the best fit for side sleepers
  • Virtually no bounce

9. Saatva Classic Mattress

It is no surprise seeing Saatva earning a spot on this list, they were one of the early players in the online mattress industry and is known for making fine-quality and long-lasting beds. Saatva Classic Mattress is built with gentle memory foam and a sturdy coil-on-coil system that promotes airflow throughout the mattress, preventing you from overheating while you sleep.

This mattress was specifically designed to offer consumers a luxuriously supportive sleeping experience, and all without breaking the bank, which is what everyone hopes!

1. Top Layer: The top layer of Saatva Mattress is a 1.25-inch Euro pillow top that is stitched in under the cover, which offers additional cushioning and comfort and aids pressure relief. The mattress also incorporates high-density foam around the perimeter of the bed to reinforced edge support.

2. Second Layer: Located below the Euro pillow top, you’ll find a thin layer of gentle memory foam for comfort and pressure relief. This unique lumbar area will have a noticeably different feel from the rest of the mattress.

3. Third Layer:  Here, you’ll see a layer of 884 individually wrapped 4-inch micro coils that creates motion isolation and conform to your body’s curves. This makes the Saatva Classic Mattress an excellent choice for people who share beds with a partner. It also has the breathability factor, this is due to the space between the springs allows for plenty of air to pass through the structure easily. It can also freshens the mattress along the way.

4. Fourth Layer: The lower layer comprised of 416 connected coils 7-inch steel hourglass-shaped support coils. It is a thick steel coil support system that gives the bed a rock-solid foundation and prevents the mattress from sagging. Also, the coil-on-coil design helps improve air circulation and provides the mattress with a decent amount of bounce.

The Saatva Classic Mattress comes in three different firmness options: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, & Firm. The Luxury Firm version is their best-seller, which is also the one I’d recommend. Most individuals should find the Saatva Luxury Firm model comfortable because it has a medium to medium-firm level of support. This medium-level firmness can accommodate almost every sleeping position while it balances pressure relief and comfort.

Additionally, I found it quite easy to move around and switch sleeping positions, making it an ideal choice for couples with different sleeping habits. This mattress has particularly positive reviews from back sleepers thanks to its springs system and unique lumbar region. They work together to provide the right amount of support and comfort. It can also help distribute your weight evenly and ensure proper spine alignment.

Saatva features an organic cotton circular knit cover that wraps the whole mattress. The non-removable cover is made of 100% organic cotton and hypoallergenic fibers. Saatva cover is reasonably soft, breathable, and anti-microbial. Not to mention, it gives the mattress a more premium and luxurious appearance. Also, it’s quilted with a bit of foam, which can provide sleepers with some instant comfort and relief.

Saatva goes above and beyond what their competitors offer by including more padding and cushioning than a standard pillow top. You will certainly enjoy the level of comfort this cover offers. It’s also a good fit if you sleep primarily on your sides or backs as it offers a great combination of comfort and support.

Saatva Company will provide you with 120 free-night trials to test out the mattress at the comfort of your home once the mattress is delivered. If you think that the mattress might not be the best fit for you during the trial period, simply give them a call. Then, they will arrange for someone to come pick it up from your home in a reasonable amount of time. Although they will issue you a full refund, please take note that they deduct a flat transportation fee of $99.

The Saatva Classic Mattress is made with durable stitching and materials; thus you should enjoy it for many years to come. Saatva also backs their Classic Mattress with a non-prorated 15-year warranty, which protects against defects in materials and workmanship.

If it doesn’t convince you enough, the company also features a Fairness Replacement Option. Basically, if you don’t want to waste time returning the mattress to get repaired, they allow you to purchase a brand new Saatva mattress at 30-75% of the original purchase price (subjected to how long you’ve kept the original bed).

The innerspring nature of the Saatva means it does not have a lot of contouring effect, which is not suitable for those who are looking for cushiony pressure relief. Moreover, you will not experience the sensation of slowly melting into the bed that is typically found in memory foam mattresses.

All things aside, considering the eco-friendly materials and high-end durable construction materials, this is quite a value. Top quality mattress often comes with a luxury price tag to match, but Saatva manages to keep its price lower by utilizing the online sales platforms. If you are looking for a durable mattress, but don’t want to destroy your budget, the Saatva Classic could be the mattress for you.

  • Great value for money
  • Fairness Replacement Option
  • Promotes great airflow
  • Suitable for any sleepers
  • Eco-friendly materials

  • Does not have deep contouring
  • Might not work if you prefer a traditional memory foam feel

10. Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress

Helix Midnight Luxe

Reaching the end of the list is the Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress. Helix Sleep is a famous brand known for its wide variety of mattresses and allows you to customize your mattresses based on your individual sleep needs. How do they do it? Their handy Sleep Quiz enables you to take a sleep quiz to determine which of their mattresses most aligns with your sleeping needs and preferences.

The Midnight Luxe Mattress offered by Helix are the brand’s new premium line of mattress. The mattresses featured in the LUXE collection are 4-inch taller compared to the original line. What makes this mattress so supreme is that it boasts exceptional cooling technology and offers zoned lumbar support. It also features a premium cooling pillow top.

Every Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress is comprised of six layers and totals and measures up to 14-inch thick.

1. Top Layer: This comfort layer is a 1-inch of high-density gel memory foam that is extremely soft and explicitly designed to provide pressure relief and increase the overall comfort of this mattress. It also has a medium feel.

2. Second Layer: This support layer is made with 2-inch Gel Visco foam, also known as the Helix Dynamic Foam. It is designed to cushion and support your body for perfect support and conform to your body’s shape or additional comfort.

3. Third Layer:  This transition layer is made with 1-inch of high-density High-Grade Polyfoam designed to provide ergonomic support and contour to your body. Besides that, it serves merely as a transition layer between the top comfort foam layers and firmer coils found underneath. It also allows a seamless progression of your body weight into the mattress

4. Fourth Layer: This Zoned Body Shape Layer comprised of 1000+ individually wrapped Coils standing at 8-inch in height that can limit excessive motion transfer while you sleep. Moreover, it can provide the right amount of support or pressure relief where your body needs it most. Also, the softer feel under your shoulders and firmer under your hips helps to cradle your body, provide advanced lumbar and edge support , and promote proper spinal alignment.

5. Bottom Layer: The base layer is a 1-inch of DuraDense high-density support foam (DuraDense Base Foam) that serves as the foundation for its structure. It also provides support for the mattress and increases its durability and stability. Furthermore, it helps to absorb motion from the coil system above.

In terms of firmness, I gave the mattress a 6.5 rating, which marks it as just a touch firmer than medium firm. Although the memory foam comfort layer is soft, lightweight, and produces some quality body contouring, the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer construction. In spite of this, I think it will be a great fit for side sleepers, who will mostly enjoy the cushiony support of the memory foam top layer.

However, as I mentioned earlier, the Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress or any other Helix mattresses are unique in that there is no pre-set level of firmness that can be evaluated based on pre-set factory construction of the bed.

The cover of the Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress is a 1-inch quilted ultra-cool premium pillow top made up of high-density polyurethane foam. The built-in environment-friendly Tencel cover offer superior comfort to the mattress and incorporate a phase change material in its fabric that absorbs excess heat to regulate body temperature. The Ultra Breathable technology helps improve the airflow through the mattress and keeps you cool and sweat-free all night long.

Helix offers its customers a 100-night free sleep trial from the date of delivery. Basically, you can test out your Helix mattress for about three months+ risk-free before deciding whether to keep it or not. If, after 30 nights, you decide the mattress isn’t quite right for you and wishes to return it, just give a call to Helix customer support, and they’ll arrange a time for the mattress to be picked up from your home. Right after the pick-up takes place, you can email the Helix company a copy of the removal receipt and they’ll issue you a full refund no questions asked.

Alternatively, if the Helix model you initially ordered is just too soft or firm, you can exchange it for another model that better suits your requirements. Again, contact Helix customer support, and they’ll be happy to take care of the exchange process. Lastly, the Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress is backed with a 15-year warranty.

The obvious downside of the Midnight Luxe Mattress is its price tag.  However, for the level of customization (firmness, amount of heat-reducing material, etc) you get and for a mattress of such a unique construction and highest-quality materials that are used in its structure, the price is undoubtedly worth it. Look on the bright side; the price came with two free premium dream pillows!

If you don’t have a tight budget and you want the zoned support coils, pillow top, and phase change cover, I’d recommend you to give this mattress a go. Additionally, this mattress is a reliable solution for you and your partner who have different sleep needs because you can get a split mattress to suit both of you since the mattress is entirely customizable.

  • Customizable Mattresses
  • Breathable Tencel Cover
  • High quality and durable
  • Suitable for all types of sleepers

  • Does not have that traditional memory foam feel

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How does a cooling mattress work?

It depends on how the cooling gel works. When there is a gap between the mattress surface and body heat, the mattress could absorbs and draws the heat from your body easily. That means that there must be a system of absorbing the heat and releasing it from the sleeping surface and prevent you from overheat.

Do gel mattresses make you hot?

I would say no. This is due to the heat stored in gel mattresses have no room to escape; the only difference is that the gel is initially being cool to the touch. Some say it may be enough to prevent uncomfortable overheating with memory foam mattresses.

Are foam mattresses hotter than spring?

Memory foam is particularly prone to trapping heat because it relies on your body temperature to become more rigid. Generally, spring mattresses are still a cooler option than foam; however, there are many foam and hybrid choices with features specially built-in to cool the sleeper.

Why do I produce so much heat when I sleep?

It is most likely your room/mattress is too warm that causes you to overheat during sleep. Medical conditions can cause night sweat, but the most common reason is a sleeping tool/environment that is too warm.

If you have problems with overheating at night, you’ll understand how frustrating and uncomfortable it can be waking up too hot and trying to fall back asleep. As time goes by, this can result in sleep deficiency. During the day, you may find yourself feeling sleepy, tired, and fatigued. Additionally, lack of sleep can weaken your health and immune system and increase your risk of getting sick.

Sleeping cool is a huge factor when attempting to get the most efficient and productive sleeps possible. Thankfully, cooling mattresses have become popular over the last several years as out-of-date materials have been replaced by better quality and durability substances. Finding the best cooling mattress can certainly help regulate your body temperature and keep you sleeping comfortably and sweat-free all night long. It is equally important to understand one’s own needs and preferences when it comes to the design options available.

In my personal opinion, AmeriSleep AS3 is a good choice if you are seeking for a mattress that can offer both comfort and pressure relief while also keep you cool as you sleep. Moreover, unlike similar foam mattresses from competing brands, the AmeriSleep AS3 is affordably priced. You don’t need to worry about breaking your bank account to get a high-quality mattress that offers you pressure relief, temperature regulation, body-contouring comfort, and motion isolation.

Another benefit of Amerisleep AS3 is that not only are all the foams used in its construction is eco-friendly, and CertiPUR-US certified, but they are also plant-based and meets the Clean Air Act‘s standards.
