General Overview

The Puffy Mattress does most of its branding online and sells 3 different mattresses: (1) “The Puffy” mattress, (2) “The Puffy Lux” mattress and (3) The Puffy Royal Mattress.

The mattresses are largely similar, but the main distinction is in the layers and the height of the mattress. The Puffy has 3 layers which is 10 inches in height. The Puffy Lux version has 4 layers and is 12 inch in height. The Puffy Royal Mattress has 5 unique layers and is 14 inches thick.

Material 

Puffy Mattress

The second layer which is the foundation layer is a 7 inch dense support foam that is the base support of the mattress. The design of this base is to be responsive. This support is up to 4 times the support as compared to traditional foam support layers.

In the mattress, they have the DeepSleep technology that is in the cooling layer of the mattress. This part of the mattress makes the mattress cool and keep the temperature regulated as well as keep the mattress comfortable for use.

Puffy Lux Mattress

Next the Puffy Lux mattress. This mattress is a 12 inch mattress and comes with 3 layers instead of 2. The Puffy Lux has an additional cloud layer for extra support and comfort. The top layer of the mattress is the 3 inches top cooling layer that has the same components in the Puffy mattress.

The next layer is the 2 inch comfort layer. This layer is what differs the Lux from the normal version. The layer is called the Puffy Cloud Comfort foam that is able to conform to your body shape and relieve pressure points in your body to promote comfortable, good quality sleep.

The last layer of the Lux Puffy mattress is the 7 inch foundation layer. Again, it is the same as the Puffy mattress version offering 4 times the support level of other foam mattresses.

Firmness

The Puffy is a universal memory foam mattress tailored for a large range of sleepers. On a scale of 1 to 10, the firmness of the Puffy is rated at about 5. The Puffy mattress is considered a soft mattress. Another plus point about the puffy mattress is that it distributes a person weight very evenly. The foam layers in the mattress also provides adequate support when sleeping.

The firmness of a mattress to a person however is always subjective due to it being highly contingent to the weight of the person. Someone who is typically lighter may find it more firm than a heavier person but as a whole it comes of as a softer mattress.

The Puffy Lux mattress on the other hand provides more firmness than the puffy mattress. The firmness of the puffy lux is probably between a 7 to 8.

For a heavier person, the puffy lux is better than the puffy mattress as it provides a better support that a heavier person may need.

Similarly, it also surely distributes weights evenly for its users and performs tremendously well for side sleepers because of the hip and shoulder support as was mentioned earlier.

But something that tops it over the puffy mattress is that due to its better firmness, it also distributes your weight evenly even when you are sitting on the mattress. Hence, this is an extra bonus for users who tend to sit on their beds. 

Temperature

The Puffy mattress does a good job of sleeping cool from the thin cover and presence of the gel infused foam layer designed to provide airflow and breathability. You shouldn’t have to deal with discomfort nor stickiness which is a common problem to most memory foam mattresses. The puffy mattress does well in that aspect.

As for sleeping hot though, the puffy mattress is pretty average. It does not stand out against other memory foam mattresses but you would not need worry about waking up filled with sweat or with a sticky body,

The Puffy Lux mattress is exceptionally good when it comes to sleeping cold. It contains a Cooling Cloud gel-infused layer that disallow the accumulation of heat and adjusts the temperature so that it is perfect for your body.

Sleeping Position & Pressure Points

The puffy mattress is a good choice and is very suitable for side sleepers as well as those on the lighter scale. If you are a light and sleep on your stomach or back, the puffy mattress will still be able to support your body.

For those that are average weighted, regardless of their sleeping position or light people who sleeps on their stomach or back, the puffy mattress is still pretty good and still able to support the body.

However, for those who are on the heavier side, the puffy mattress will not be so suitable as the mattress is on the softer side and may not provide them with the support they require. If you are on the heavier side it is better to opt for the Puffy Lux mattress instead.

Another plus point about both versions of the Puffy mattress is that it is able to distribute body weight evenly. The foam layers in the mattress also provides adequate support to the user when sleeping and makes it a really good mattress for side sleepers as it supports the hips and shoulders. This helps reduce and risk and also avoid any numbness and stiffness that is usually caused by firm mattresses.  

As for the puffy lux mattress, it has a slight upper-hand because it is also a very good mattress not just for light, side sleepers but for average weighted side and back sleepers.

Edge Support

Edge support is important for those sleeping with a partner or with kids on the bed. If edge support is present, the space on the mattress can be fully utilized and support you when you are pushed to the edge.

The edge support for the puffy mattress is on the average scale. It is not the best edge support, but it is still able to support your body when lying down. Since the mattress is just a 10-inch mattress when sitting down, you can see the mattress sink quite low. This is more apparent when you are seating on the mattress.

If you were to sit at the edge of the mattress, the mattress will sink in and it continues to do so even after reaching the foam core. However, when lying down on the mattress there is still quite a good edge support as there is no feeling of rolling off or slipping of the bed as the body weight is able to be distributed evenly on the mattress. The puffy lux also has similar effects in edge support, but with the dense memory foam present it does help. Being 2 inches more than the original puffy mattress, it does give a much better edge support as comparing to the original puffy mattress.

Nonetheless, needless to say, you will still sink a few inches down when sitting by the edge of the mattress but do not worry because when you lie down, your weight is distributed more evenly, and the mattress will be able to support you even at the edge of the mattress.

Motion Transfer & Sinkage

Motion transfer is also another feature that is important when sleeping with a partner. Motion transfer is the amount of motion that can be felt on the other side of the mattress when there is movement on one side of the mattress. Motion isolation is important as it enables both individuals or other individuals on the mattress to not get affected by the movement of the other.

This would improve sleep quality as there won’t be any disturbances is movement from one another. Given that it is a memory foam mattress, the motion transfer is expected to be minimal.  Overall, the puffy mattress handles sinkage and motion transfer very well and is much better that majority of the memory mattresses of its category.

Take note that the motion transfer and sinkage depends on the weight of the sleeper. Someone who is heavier will definitely sink in deeper than a person who weighs half the weight. This is especially when sitting by the edge of the mattress. For someone who is very much heavier (e.g. 250LBS or more), the mattress can sink all the way when sitting by the edge. However, a lighter person may not experience the same thing.

The puffy mattress can have some sinkage but it’s not something too major. This is quite common for a 10 inch mattresses with not many layers.  This is again obviously more common for people who are heavier and may not be the case for really light people. .

For the Puffy Lux mattress, when sitting by the edge of the mattress, even for someone who is slightly heavier, you can expect it to be able to have more edge support when sitting the by edge of the bed. Unlike the original puffy mattress, the puffy lux mattress is less likely to sink in all the way. Of course, it will still sink in to a certain degree, but it provides much stronger support in comparison to the puffy mattress.  

Most memory foam mattresses does have a disadvantage for couples with a large differential in weight. Due to the sinkage, quite often the lighter partner may roll into the deeper sinkage caused by the heavier partner. But this is not the case for the puffy lux mattress. This is because the puffy lux mattress has thick layers of durable foams.

With these thick layers of durable foams, there is little to none motion transfer that exists among sleeping partners. The mattress is outstanding at causing any motion or movement to go unnoticed.
